Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley

This flower has come up a lot lately for me. It’s been kind of funny actually. The lily of the valley is one of the most harmless and innocent looking flowers on the face of the earth, and yet, it is also one of the deadliest…

Lily of the Valley Berry

The appealing red berries are especially harmful to children and small animals

A few months ago my mother’s friend passed away. His mothers jewelry, which he had inherited, was passed on to his long time girlfriend. She was very sad about the whole thing and gave all the stuff she inherited to my mother, one of his closest friends. My mom doesn’t wear jewelry often, but I do so she said I could take whatever I wanted from the dusty old box we received in the mail. It turned out to have quite a lot of lovely pieces, and not cheap ones either. I picked out this pendant to wear:

On the pendant was a small label which said Lalique. Lalique is a French brand that makes lead crystal jewelry, and as it turns out, also means lily of the valley. I was curious about it so I looked up the pendant on the internet to see if I could find it. I knew because of the brand and the fact that it was gold, it had to be worth a pretty penny or two (not that I would have sold it). Well, it turned out to be around $400 dollars which was quite a surprise to me!

Hopefully, this innocent necklace doesn’t bring with it some kind of poison. Even those with good intentions can fall prey to toxic decisions like Oedipus marrying his own mother.

In conclusion, I have decided not to plant any Lilies of the Valley in my yard because I don’t want my pets to get sick from them. The necklace will have to do. 😛
